In working with clay, I have found a way to visually show the healing struggle that occurs for those who have lived through childhood trauma. Each of my miniature sculptures has been created through my own internal healing process and is an expression of unspoken emotion. The mission of MildStones Creations is to make my sculptures available to others who are going through their own healing journey. Faceless, my sculptures’ forms are narrative in nature, allowing viewers to project their own feelings and thoughts onto each piece. Perfect for Sandplay Therapy, I am currently in the process of finding ways to reproduce these pieces so they will be available to therapists and others interested in them.
It is also my intention through MildStones Creations to make handmade MildStones available. Based from my sculptures, MildStones when held in the hand, bring about a sense of calm, connectedness and greater inner awareness. Known world-wide for their therapeutic attributes, people have been carrying worrystones with them for centuries. My MildStones are my own version of the worrystone. When you feel physical or emotional pain, anxiety or stress of any kind, hold one in your hand and rub your thumb on its reverse side, feeling the calm affect your mind and body. The gentle pressure of the "stone" on your thumb and the repeated motion are said to release endorphins, your body's natural painkiller.
While my artwork is very personal, it is the person viewing the work who carries his or her own truth for it. What is my "Solitude" may be your "Contemplation". For this is what makes art so uniquely special.
